FLAGLER PALM COAST - Oakleaf High senior track jumper Arianna Eason continued her reign of the triple jump with a state best gold medal at the region 1-4A track and field championships held Saturday at Flagler Palm Coast High School.

Eason, who adds the region title to her district title, will now be a heavy favorite to close the chapter on her senior season with a Class 4A gold medal Saturday at the University of Florida.

Eason won her event in Flagler with a 39’-1.25” leap on her first attempt to hold off jumps of 38’-4.75” and 37’-6.75” from runnerup Ma’Kala Davis of Ocoee and Taylor Sapp of Lake Mary.

In the other three region 4A championship meets, Eason’s targets will be a 40’-6.75” jump from Chelsi Williams of George Jenkins High in region 2-4A, a 39’-5.25” leap from Adina Jackson of Palm Beach Central in region 3-4A. Region 4-4A was won at just 36’-5.5”.

Last year’s state title was won at 39’-7” with Eason fourth at 37’-8”, Davis fifth at 37’-3” and Jackson sixth at 37’-2.5” so the crowd at the top will be very familiar with each other in Gainesville. Sapp of Lake Mary was 12th last year.

Eason will have a few teammates with her in Gainesville with Sydney Brown at high jump, Sierra Barrera in the 800 and 1600, Keira Smalls in the 100 hurdles and Adrionna Coleman in the discus. The Oakleaf girls 4 x 100, featuring Eason as anchor also advanced and is sixth ranked.

For the boys, shot putter Jordan Mitchell advanced and is ranked eighth.

Barrera finished sixth in the region 800 with the top six all under 2:20 and also took sixth in the 1600 with the top seven under 5:20 in two very fast races for the girls. The 1600, though, was won in 5:08.80 with Barrera in at 5:17.48.

Around the state, a 5:01.35 1600 and 2:15.41 800 won region 2-4A, in a duel with the region 1-4A distance runners for deep fields in both races, with five runners under 5:10. Region 3-4A’s 1600 was won in 5:07.90 with second place at 5:14.39 with a 2:21.08 winning the 800. Region 4-4A had a 2:21.65 to win that 800 and a 5:17.64 to win the 1600.

Last year’s Class 4A 800 was won in 2:11.42 with the 1600 won in 4:50.27 with the top four all under five minutes; top 10 under 5:10.

The boys 4A shotput state title was a 57’-7” put by Niceville senior Ben Miasga. Top throw for region 1-4A was a 55’-7.75” toss from Niceville’s Noah Harman with Mitchell sixth at 49’-5.5”.
