Elementary students add awards at Math Field Day

FLEMING ISLAND – More than 460 elementary students came out early last Saturday for Math Field Day at Fleming Island High to compete in five events: The Huddle, The Quiz, The Relay and Word Problems and the Muggins Tournament. More than 125 teachers dedicated the months before the competition to get their students ready for the big day. More than 35 volunteers from the community, as well as district employees, came together to make this day a success. Superintendent David Broskie, Chief of Elementary Education Director Heather Teto, School Board members Mary Bolla, Beth Clark, Tina Bullock and Janice Kerekes all hosted the Awards Ceremony to a packed gymnasium of math scholars, coaches and their families.

The winners:

Fourth grade: 1. R.M. Paterson, 2. Orange Park, 3. Shadowlawn

Fifth grade: 1. Orange Park, 2. Plantation Oaks, 3, McRae and R.M. Paterson

Sixth grade: 1. Thunderbolt, Fleming Island, Orange Park

Muggins Tournament: Steven Carter, Keystone Heights (highest score), Katie Waters, Argyle (overall)
