It is amazing that anyone could be seen as guiltless for his past no matter what he has done. However, that is exactly what the term “Justified” means in the Scriptures.

The great Scripture verse that declares this truth is in Romans 5:1. It says, “Therefore, since we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us grasp the fact that we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

“Justified” means that God forgives our sins and sees us as righteous. That is remarkable. God considers us as one who has not sinned when He justifies us by faith through the blood of Jesus.

How can God do that? He can do it because the consequences of sin were put on Jesus on the Cross. That is what the Bible means when it says “God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” (2 Cor. 5:21 NLT)

This is profound truth. At the same time, it is simple. We sang about it in Sunday School as children.

Jesus loves me this I know

For the Bible tells me so.

The fact is that God our Father sees us as being without sin because He looks at us through Jesus. That means He has justified you. That can only be done because Jesus has paid the horrible penalty for sin. Because of that our sins are forgiven and our Father can see us as being without sin.

This is an amazing miracle. God has performed it for all of us in the salvation that He has put into place through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and His resurrection from the dead.

Justification gives us peace with God. The first verse I gave you (Rom. 5:1) tells us we have peace with God because we have been justified by our faith in Him.

Justified and given peace with God. That is what we can have by faith!
