Five Clay LEGO League teams place in top 30% in regional tourney

CLAY COUNTY – The future of STEM innovation shined brightly as five remarkable teams from Clay County proudly competed in the First LEGO League Regional Tournament Jan. 17-18 in Alachua.

These teams earned their place among the top 30% of more than 200 teams in Northeast Florida, showcasing extraordinary skills in robotics, teamwork and innovation.

Representing Clay County at this prestigious event were Orange Park Elementary Eaglebots, Lakeside Lakerbots, Paterson Elementary Mechanatees, Middleburg Elementary Robopirates and Code Ninjas Fleming Island – Sea Apples.

The tournament, held at the Legacy Park Multipurpose Center, challenged these young innovators to design, build, and program robots to complete complex missions while also presenting innovative solutions to real-world problems.

Dedication and Teamwork Clay County’s teams exhibited exceptional preparation, creativity and enthusiasm throughout the competition. From the imaginative designs of their robots to the innovative projects they presented, the students demonstrated the values of the First LEGO League: discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork and fun.

"It’s inspiring to see these students work together to solve problems and push the boundaries of what they can achieve. They are truly building skills for the future," said Ryan Clark, Vice President of Builders of Tomorrow.

Celebrating Achievements Each of the Clay County teams brought their unique talents and determination to the regional tournament, and their advancement from local qualifiers highlights the growing

strength of STEM education in the area. Teachers, coaches, and families alike celebrated the students’ hard work and passion for robotics and innovation.

"We couldn’t be prouder of these students," said Jack, one of the coaches. "They’ve not only showcased their technical skills but also their ability to work together, think creatively, and tackle challenges head-on. This experience will stay with them as they continue to grow."

Looking forward The First LEGO League Regional Tournament was an incredible opportunity for students to apply their STEM skills in a high-energy, collaborative environment. As these Clay County teams continue their journeys in robotics and innovation, they represent the very best of the community’s commitment to preparing the next generation of problem-solvers and leaders.

Congratulations to the Eaglebots, Lakerbots, Mechanatees, Robopirates, and Sea Apples for their outstanding achievements and for representing Clay County with such excellence.
