JACKSONVILLE – It may be just week one of training camp, but Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles, acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles after winning the Super Bowl over New England and also after earning the Super Bowl MVP trophy, looked to be locked in to his duties as the saviour for the struggling offense.

“I don’t think our team and coaches have been happy with situational football,” said Jaguars coach Doug Marrone. “Whether it’s calling the plays or executing the plays, we feel like we have to improve there.”

With some drops off passes during one scrimmage segment, Jacksonville receivers found out that passes to their hands will be forthcoming.

Foles called the first week his first installation of the Jaguars’ system.

“This was a winning practice after we talked about what we want to do and then come out and rep it,” said Foles. “After practice, we talk to each other about different things. We can talk about the ins and outs of route runnings and my steps so we can improve.”

The receivers, coached by former Jaguar Keenan McCardell, were Dede Westbrook, Chris Conley, Keelan Cole and D.J. Clark with Westbrook the standout of the quartet and one of Foles top targets.

“We are doing a lot of rotations of first strings with second strings,” said Marrone. “We are just trying to give everyone a pretty good look. It’s after the second preseason that we start making choices. We are just trying to put the work in.”

On defense, All Pro defensive end Calais Campbell was dancing with confidence with rookie Josh Allen getting constructive criticism on his new arena.

Cornerback Jalen Ramsey called the first week a good week.

“We are getting in a good mind set out there,” said Ramsey. “Energy is better in the morning sessions.”
