FLEMING ISLAND – Staff from Clay County Fire Rescue are teaming up with Who We Play For to protect the young hearts of the Clay County community. This heart screening is accessible to all students 10-22 regardless of school, sport or level of play.
The free health event is scheduled on Saturday, June 15, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Clay County Health Department, located at 1845 Town Center Blvd., Building 600.
Why is this important?
Sudden Cardiac Arrest claims the lives of thousands of seemingly healthy kids every year and is the leading cause of death for student-athletes.
The standard sports physical only detects about 4% of underlying heart conditions. The addition of an electrocardiogram increases detection by up to 95%.
An ECG isa painless, non-invasive, and only takes five minutes to complete. You can sign up for this free event on the organization’s website. whoweplayfor.org/florida-clay.
