GREEN COVE SPRINGS - The community came together for Green Cove’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day ceremony last Wednesday, Jan. 15.

The event, which aimed to remember and celebrate King’s legacy, was held at First African Missionary Baptist Church. The keynote speaker was Pastor Adrian Andrews, who is also the mayor of Penney Farms.

From joyous singing to empowering speeches, the community was in high spirits.

The event was attended by several county and city leaders, including Mayor Steven Kelley, Vice Mayor Thomas Smith, City Manager Steve Kennedy, council members Matt Johnson and Connie Butler, as well as members of the Clay County Sheriff's Office and Green Cove Springs Police Department.

The council also gave an official proclamation to recognize the occasion, presented by Smith.
