Green Cove Springs authorizes new Citizens Advisory Committee

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Green Cove Springs City Council met briefly Tuesday and the only item of note was the discussion and authorization of the newly formed Citizens Advisory Committee.

City Manager Steve Kennedy addressed the council regarding the Green Cove Springs Citizens Advisory Committee. The goal of it is to provide input and feedback on matters of public opinion regarding a variety of issues related to the operation of the City of Green Cove Springs. The input received may be factored into various decisions made by the City of Green Cove Springs. This committee would help to advise the city council with the voices of the city residents on different items.

The committee will have three officers: chairperson, vice-chairperson and secretary.

Selection will include an application and survey which will be evaluated. Meetings will be held monthly.

Following the briefing on the committee, the city council unanimously voted to pass the motion, 5-0.

Finally, there was a request for a 30-golf cart parade in Green Cove Springs on Dec. 5. The request included the city barricade some of the streets and provide security. The council approved the request with the following caveats:

• A minor special event application would have to be filled out.

• A sponsor would need to be found to be to pay the GCS Police officers who would be on duty.

• All CDC guidelines for health considerations in regard to COVID-19 must be observed.

The parade would be led entirely by residents.
