GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The city announced Thursday afternoon Police Chief John Guzman will retire on Jan. 22.
Guzman has been an integral part of the police department for 21 years and moved into the position after Chief Derek Asdot passed away unexpectedly in 2021.
“It has been an honor to protect and serve the citizens of Green Cove Springs for 21 years, nearly half of my life, and to work alongside some of the finest law enforcement officers I have ever known,” Guzman said.
“We want to thank Chief Guzman for his many years of service and dedication to the City of Green Cove Springs,” City Manager Steve Kennedy said. “We wish him all the best in this next chapter of his life.”
The City of Green Cove Springs selected Cmdr. Shawn Hines to serve as Interim Chief of Police during the transition period.
