GREEN COVE SPRINGS – One new officer was sworn into duty and another earned a promotion at the Green Cove Springs Police Department during Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
Russell Reese was hired as a patrol officer, while Austin Graham was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
In other business, the council was briefed by Clay County Manager Howard Wanamaker on the county’s progress of getting its yard trash pickups back on schedule. The county has rented four Green Cove Springs garbage trucks on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays to make up a three-week backlog created by a staffing shortage at Waste Management.
The council also discussed the revision of the council meeting schedule due to the holidays this winter. It was decided and approved the November schedule would be determined later, while one meeting will be held in December, on the seventh of the month.
Finally, a presentation was then given by Mike Daniels of GCS and Rives Deuterman of Geographic Technologies Group on the new GeoHub software that will soon be available for the citizens of Green Cove Springs. The software will provide a lot of information and views of the city that residents and city officials will be able to use.
