GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Green Cove Springs City Council and Police Chief joined Tuesday night for the promotion ceremony of Communications Officer Brandi Acres to Communications Supervisor.
Chief Derek Asdot commended Acres for her tenure, outstanding work and contributions to the department. Acres was then pinned with her new Supervisor badge by her husband before the meeting continued.
Acres’s promotion was followed by a presentation from Kimberly Cobb-Ray of the Northeast Florida Community Action Agency. The NEFL is one of the leading anti-poverty organizations in the area. Cobb-Ray briefed the council on different issues facing the community, many of which were caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated effects.
The consent agenda was accepted, with only one item pulled for discussion – the city’s approval for the Food Truck Friday schedule and request for city support.
Mayor Van Royal and Vice-mayor Edward Gaw both abstained from the discussion because both have had personal involvement with the event and they wanted to avoid any conflict of interest. Gaw worked to set the dates with the food trucks as well as the live entertainment who will be present each month. Food Truck Fridays will be on the second Friday of each month, from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. at Spring Park. Although Royal and Edward Gaw abstained, it passed 3-0.
City Manager Steve Kennedy then briefed the council there currently are 19 applications for the City Advisory Council being examined.
