ORANGE PARK – On Sunday, June 23, employees and customers learned that the restaurant on Wells Road was one of nearly 40 around the country permanently closed. Hooters cited underperforming locations, a challenging operating environment and high prices as reasons for shuttering the chain’s location at 1740 Wells Road. The Orange Park location had been open for nearly 24 years, and the closure affected about 40 employees. By Monday afternoon, a skeleton crew was busy loading equipment and furniture into a rental truck to be taken to other Jacksonville locations at 8938 San Jose Blvd. and 4521 Southside Blvd.
