KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – Keystone Heights Insurance has provided insurance in the Lake Region for more than 40 years. Barbara Franklin, the current owner, purchased the agency in 2016 after the previous owner, Bryan Hawkins, died.

Keystone Heights Insurance provides a wide range of insurance. They offer insurance for business commercial and homeowners. They also have auto insurance for vehicles, motorcycles, boats and four-wheelers.

The agency has had to deal with the increasing insurance policy price for homeowners’ insurance recently.

“It’s sad because you got people that live on a budget, they are on social security, they have limited income, and their premium isn’t going up $50,” Barabra said. “It’s seven to eight hundred annually.”

She says that the increase in roof fraud is a major reason why prices are escalating. She says that roof fraud occurs when unsolicited roofers convince homeowners to get unnecessary repairs or replace their roofs. She continues to say that fraud happens everywhere – not just in Keystone Heights.

“It’s everywhere,” she said.

Unlike other insurance agencies in the area, Keystone Heights Insurance is an independent agency that has the freedom to meet the needs of its customers in terms of affordable pricing.

“Over the past six months, a lot of our time has been spent on re-quoting and trying to find our customers things they can afford,” Barbara said.

She said that they have been moving customers to different carriers to ensure affordability.

Despite the increasing premiums, the company is actively involved in the community. All the staff members are local to the Keystone area.

“Everybody is kind of like family,” she said.

She continues to say that everybody in the company participates in community events like Boo on the Boulevard and it is their way of giving back to the community. In addition to participating in community events, they are also actively helping with fundraisers.

The company is involved with the Melrose Community and Senior Center, Keystone Lake Region Business Association, Keystone Lake Region Lions Club, Melrose Volunteer Fire Department, Melrose Business and Community Association and Embrace Community.
