OAKLEAF - After a 6-2 loss to Clay at the Jacksonville Baseball Grounds, Oakleaf has rattled off strong three game win streak over St. Johns Country Day School (3rd in 2A), St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra (18th in 5A).
Against St. Johns, a first inning homer by Devin Outlaw got the Knights on the board quickly with the Knights also putting two baserunners on afterward. St. Johns starter J.D. Hay survived the onslaught to end the inning with just one run down.
Oakleaf starter Jorden Clarke whipped three outs on two fly balls and a nifty scoop and serve by shortstop J.P. Espinosa on a Sean Andrade grounder.
Both pitchers controlled their defenses for the next few innings before Kody Daneault singled and stole a second base and Isaiah Mamea doubled to put St. Johns on the board.
In the fifth, Andrade doubled but was stranded on two fly balls.
Oakleaf had bases loaded in the sixth but could not get to home plate with a heads up play by third baseman Seth Alford who snagged Espinosa with a strike to catcher Hunter Rodgers.
Oakleaf got a double play from Espinosa to second base Antonio Diaz who finished with a laser to first base Devin Collins.
St. Johns took out Hay in the sixth inning with an elbow injury with Trevor Bradley getting two strikeouts in the seventh.
For Oakleaf, in the seventh, pitcher Landon McDonald came in and survived an error by Espinosa to keep the game going.
St. Johns entered Jacob Thomas on the mound and got a grounder and two Ks in the eighth.
McDonald and Thomas exchanged three batter innings with McDonald getting three flyouts and Thomas three more Ks.
St.Johns took a 2-1 lead off a Boylston single, an error and a run scoring grounder by Thomas.
With Daneault on the mound in the 10th, Noah Johnson walked and Nolan Cameron bunted to set up the tying run.
Two walks loaded the bases before Diaz got hit with a pitch to put Oakleaf up with Cameron scoring.
Against St. Augustine, Oakleaf batter Xavier Colucci pounded the Yellowjackets with a two doubles and a homer in the 14-10 blowout.
Against Ponte Vedra, Antonio Diaz got two doubles, two singles to lead the Knight to a 9-7 win over the Sharks.
