LAKE ASBURY - Kaygen Williamson was the hero for the second year in a row as the Lake Asbury Junior High Lady Tiger flag football team won a 6-0 Northeast Florida Athletic Conference title over Green Cove Springs Junior High Monday afternoon at Lake Asbury Junior High School.

Williamson's lone score came on a fourth and goal to go in the second quarter as Green Cove Springs defense held the fast-moving Lake Asbury offense to just one shot at the end zone. Last year, Williamson scampered 69 yards in the final seconds of the Lady Tigers championship win over Oakleaf Junior High School.

After both teams snagged interceptions in the first quarter to squash any offensive threats; Shelby McClain for Lake Asbury and Gabby Musa for the Lady Cougars, Lake Asbury quarterback Katherine Tillis connected with wide out Bailey Parker who got lost in the Green Cove secondary by herself and snared the pass before getting tagged at the Cougar four yard line.

Twice Green Cove rusher Addison Holstin denied Tillis access to the end zone before Tillis faked once more on a forward plunge before flipping the ball to Williamson in the end zone.

Just before halftime, Lake Asbury All Pro defensive rusher Nia Blocton picked off Green Cove quarterback Devin Dudones who was under heavy pressure from Nacoya Blocton and Zyah Campbell.

Forced to pass downfield in the second half, Dudones connected three times with Megan Cobb for timely gains, but Nia Blocton kept the pressure in the backfield with two more sacks as the fourth quarter inched toward the final two minutes.

With 2:04 left in the game, Dudones got to the Lake Asbury 15 on a crowded pass catch by Cobb coupled with a 10 yard penalty flag for a rough hit as Green Cove coach Doug Deters tried to pull off a Nick Saban miracle finish.

Blocton again disrupted the Cougar progress with a sack before a final incomplete pass ended the game.
