OAKLEAF - In a clash of Clay County junior high flag football champions, Lake Asbury Junior High School took their third straight flag title with an 18-0 win over Oakleaf Junior High School, a former numerous times county champion.
Lake Asbury was led at quarterback by Cassidy Miceli with speedster Yulianna Garcia who befuddled the defensive efforts of Oakleaf aggressive front line.
On the Lake Asbury defensive line, Saige Bialek wreaked havoc on the Oakleaf offense with fast rushes and a handful of sacks behind the line of scrimmage.
Wide receiver Janiya Anderson got the Tigers on the scoreboard first with a pass play from Miceli, but wideout Emma Rayes could not snag the PAT pass in the back of the end zone as the score stood 6-0.
An interception by Savannah Milam set up Lake Asbury’s next score with Rayes holding on to the six pointer in a second shot at the end zone.
The score stood 12-0 at the half with Lake Asbury coaches James Black and Rodney Ivey knowing the championship pedigree of Oakleaf under coach Wanda Franklin would not sit back in the second half.
A final punt return for touchdown from Garcia was the final score for Lake Asbury.
