Legacy Home Health serves veterans in memory of former Marine

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – Legacy Home Health Care was originally a dream of Betsy Murphy’s father-in-law, who was a highly decorated U.S. Marine.
“He had a heart for senior citizens. He loved senior citizens.” Betsy said.
She continues to say that a part of his vision was to do a home health agency and nursing for seniors. However, in February 2013, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away in May of that year. It was not until a few years later that Betsy and her husband Chris decided to open a home health agency as his legacy.
As of recent, Legacy Home Health Care expanded its services to veterans after a long process. It has been the goal of Betsy and Chris to be able to help the VA since 2017.
“There are a lot of veterans that need home help services at different points in time and we really wanted to focus on that and their specialized needs,” Betsy said.
Legacy Home Health Care is a family-owned home health agency that provides nursing, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. They provide the necessities that patients need in order to recover after being hospitalized or a recent illness.
“Anything the patients need in the home to keep them from going back to the hospital,” she said. The agency is licensed to do medical services and companion services but can provide recommendations. In addition, the coverage for these services is covered if the patient has traditional Medicare as their primary insurance.
As a family-operated agency, Legacy treats its patients as individuals.
“Our patients are like family,” Betsy said. “We are very concerned with each individual patient. Each patient isn’t a number to us, they are an individual.”
Besides adding the VA to its clientele, Legacy is experiencing growth in its agency. They had recently opened in Ocala several months ago, allowing them to assist the elderly in Marion County and Fort Sumter.
In addition, they are relocating their Keystone Heights office to a better building in the area.
“God has blessed us and we are super thankful for this opportunity in the community,” Betsy said.
