GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A high-speed chase ended tragically on Sept. 13 for a 33-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence and burglary, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.
Steve Randall Miracle Jr., of Green Cove Springs, tried to ram his pickup truck into a Task Force vehicle on U.S. Highway 17 before leading the agency on a chase on County Road 209. About a half mile north of Decoy Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said Miracle failed to negotiate a left curve, and his truck left the road, colliding in a tree line, overturned and landed on its roof. Clay County Fire Rescue attempted resuscitation, but he was declared dead on the scene.
CCSO attempted to stop Miracle because it had probable cause for his arrest for residential burglary. Deputies also said he was driving “in a manner that was consistent with someone that may be under the influence or impaired.”
When they attempted to stop him, he tried to run into one of the deputies with his truck before taking off.
FHP is investigating.
