MIDDLEBURG – A man who bought the contents of a storage unit on County Road 218 in May found a USB thumb drive containing child pornography, which led to the arrest of a Titusville man on Aug. 5.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Frederick Karl Hildenbrand, 53, was charged with seven counts of possessing, controlling or viewing child pornography after the buyer took the thumb drive to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office after he found it in a safe among other items won in an auction at Extra Space Storage, which was formerly known as WeStor of Middleburg. According to the affidavit for an arrest warrant, Hildenbrand rented the 10-foot by 10-foot unit from Sept. 11, 2018, until May 14, 2024. According to storage unit records, Hildenbrand’s last payment was in February 2024. The storage unit said he didn’t respond to their requests for payments.
Hildenbrand remains in the Clay County Jail with a $1,750,021 bond.
