GAINESVILLE - Florida State College track and cross country star Emma Mussante, a senior out of Middleburg High School in Middleburg, FL, better her fourth best mile time in school history from January 17 with a new school just a week later as the 'Mocs continued their season in indoor track at the Alachua County Sports Complex at Celebration Pointe in Gainesville.l
On January 17, at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, the opening event for the Mocs was the mile as senior Emma Mussante and sophomore Grace Reed set top-10 times to lead a group of nine Mocs in the event. Mussante took 21st overall but was the top non-Division I runner in the event. The first seven FSC finishers were the top-seven non-Division I runners in the race which also included competitors from Embry-Riddle. Mussante's time of 5:13.75 ranked as the fourth-best time in program history while Reed stopped the clock at 5:15.10 to take 23rd overall and seventh in the FSC record book.
Just a week later, on January 24, at the RADD Sports College Invitational also at the Alachua County Sports Complex, Mussante lowered the fourth best record she set in the prior week by leading a group of five Mocs in the mile as the top-three all found their way into the program's all-time top-10. Mussante was the first Moccasin to cross the finish in a new record time of 5:03.80 to place ninth overall.
As a junior, Mussante set the school record in the 3,000 meters with a 10:02.11 and has a school record in the 5,000 with a 17:40.06 in Boston.
Next up, FSC heads to Boston University for the John Thomas Terrier Classic before returning to Gainesville on February 1 for the Legends of Alachua County Invitational.
