MIDDLEBURG – After surveilling a residence on Plankton Drive on July 17, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit members saw a man leave in a car and not stop at the intersection of Plankton and Johns Cemetery Road.
That prompted a traffic stop and a subsequent exterior drug sniff by K-9 Koda, which quickly alerted them to the likely presence of illegal narcotics.
A search uncovered a large Kabar knife between the seat and the center console. At the same time, CCSO Narcotics Unit and Fugitive Team executed a residential search warrant on the home as the deputies involved in the traffic stop transported Devon Corey Justice, 31, back to the house. Two other people in the house were called out before deputies moved in.
Deputies found 48 undetermined pills in a safe, cocaine, fentanyl, buprenorphine, “white substance” inside the safe, $16,000, 76 rounds of 9mm rounds, 35 .380 rounds, three 9mm handguns, including one reported stolen out of Duval County, and 21 6.5 Greedmore rounds.
On July 19, CCSO added three more charges at the jail – smuggling contraband into the jail, possession of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance.
Then on July 20, he was charged with possession of ammunition and a firearm as a convicted felon.
All of Justice’s bonds total $850,018. He is scheduled to be back in court on Aug. 15.
