GREEN COVE SPRINGS - A downtown home was destroyed by fire that was focused to the attic area where a homeless man was living.
According to a neighbor, the man had permission to live upstairs. He had been making repairs to the home at 513 Palmer St. for nearly a week.
The neighbor said her husband saw the man shortly before the fire early Monday. The Green Cove Springs Police Department didn't report any injuries.
Clay County Fire and Rescue responded. The home, which previously had been abandoned, appeared to be destroyed.
