MIDDLEBURG — Students enrolled in electrocardiogram (EKG) programs at Oakleaf High School and Middleburg High School spent the day at the hospital for "Heart of Healthcare Career Day."

A panel of associates across the hospital shared stories about their careers and advised the students on accomplishing their goals. The students also toured the hospital and observed how each department works with each other to take care of patients.

Jhimerea Gadson is one of the students in the EKG program at Oakleaf High. She says she still isn't sure which path in the healthcare industry she will focus on. Still, she's taking every opportunity to learn from healthcare professionals while volunteering and spending time in the hospital.

"The exciting part is really learning what everybody does, "said Gadson. "There's a lot of things that you don't really know unless you come to the hospital and volunteer. So, you get to see a lot of different things and learn a lot of things that you wouldn't know."

This is the inaugural "Heart of Healthcare Career Day" at St. Vincent's Clay. Organizers look forward to making this an annual event at the hospital.
