OAKLEAF – Oakleaf High’s bats exploded after back-to-back losses to Class 6A powers Clay (6-1) and Ponte Vedra (5-4) as the Knights ran off wins of 6-4 over 6A-Baker County and 11-1 over district 2-8A-Robert E. Lee High in the week of March 13-20. Oakleaf (6-3) returns to regular season play with a Mon., March 25 game against 3A-University Christian (3-6) and a Tues., March 26 game against 4A-Episcopal, both at Oakleaf High Scbool.
Against University, the Knights got a three-run double from Simon Kohn in the third inning to go up 3-1 then got bases loaded in the fourth inning to set up a two-run single form Dalton Holland as the Knights took opportunities and turned them to runs to win 14-5 Monday night. Six more runs came in the fifth behind a two run homer from Kohn.
Oakleaf’s first district 2-8A test comes with Atlantic Coast (5-5) hosting the Knights on April 1 then Fletcher (10-1) coming to Oakleaf April 9.
Thus far, the Knights are led in the batters’ box by Logan Schmidt with a .353 batting average in eight games with 10 runs batted in and one homer. Kobe Branch is slightly behind Schmidt with a .333 batting average in eight games with seven runs batted in.
