Madge Marie Tyre
After an adventurous 82 years, Madge Marie Tyre departed this life on 3rd March 2022 to be with Jesus. Born 29th October 1939 to Madge and George Hanna, she attended Worthington High School in Flint, Ohio and was active in basketball, hockey, volleyball, swimming and numerous social clubs.
In 1958 her eye was turned by a handsome Floridian and they danced their way through the next six decades, raising two daughters and relocating to Jacksonville. From her teenage job at the five-and-dime to her thirty-year tenure as Continuing Medical Education Coordinator for St. Vincent’s, she valued her independence and took great pride in her achievements. She made dozens of trips around the world - trekking the Swiss Alps and floating down Venetian canals, enjoying sunset balloon rides in Santa Fe and nights out in London’s West End – and was an avid reader and nature lover. Whether dancing the Madison or cruising the Mediterranean, her vivacious “soul sisters” were always by her side and she deeply valued her lifelong friendships.
Between travels, she was a fixture at the Shepard Center, Red Hat Society, and Travel Club, enjoyed playing canasta and scrabble, attending cooking and fine art classes, reading to schoolchildren, line dancing and ABBA discos. Her dry humor, sharp wit and infectious smile will be deeply missed by her surviving friends and family, the latter of whom are thankful to have inherited both her tenacity and passion for life - husband Stanley Tyre, daughters Kimbra and Lisa, grandchildren Heather, Hanna, Nicholas and Joshua and great-granddaughter Penelope.
In lieu of flowers, Marie was passionate in her giving to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital as well as her church, as she supported all they were doing to share the love of Christ. A private service will be held in her honor at Grace Anglican.
