Jason Christopher Mendeola
Jason Christopher Mendeola, 49, of Orange Park passed away September 15, 2019 after a brief illness.
Jason was born in Staten Island, NY and grew up in Orange Park where he was a tri-star athlete playing basketball, football and baseball at OPHS.
He worked for AT&T for a time and coached youth basketball. Jason will be remembered for his quick wit, light-heartedness and his readiness to accept a challenge or adventure when presented to him.
Jason is survived by his mother, Elfriede Blackmar, father, Roberto Mendeola, and sister, Colleen Murphy. He also leaves behind his beloved English bulldog, Barney.

Randall Warren
Randall Warren, 60, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away September 11, 2019. He was born in Jacksonville, FL, on November 15, 1958.
Randall graduated from Bishop Kenny High School and received his B.S. in Education from The University of Tennessee at Martin. He was married to Betty Anne Warren on October 12, 2001.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Brookshire, and his brother Mitchell.
He is survived by wife Anne Warren; his mother, Mary Lee West Warren; sister, Cindy Mason; brothers, Timothy and Chris and step-daughter, Lana Champion (Richard), step-son, George Titshaw, step-grandson Colton Champion, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Fleming Island High School, in Clay County, with a visitation for the family and friends from 10am-11am and a service at 11am with luncheon following.

Madeline Theresa Laidler
Ms. Madeline Theresa Laidler, age 24, of Middleburg, FL, passed away on September 8, 2019.
Maddy was born in Jacksonville, FL, on December 20, 1994 to Mark and Charlene Sutton Laidler. She was born and raised in the Middleburg area and is a 2013 graduate of Middleburg High School where she was an active member of the band.
Maddy loved music and loved singing karaoke. She also loved fishing, Star Wars, mudding, and she was a big holiday fan. She enjoyed decorating and being festive for various holidays. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her nieces.
She is preceded in death by her grandfathers, James Laidler and James Sutton. Maddy is survived by her parents, Mark and Charlene Sutton Laidler of Middleburg; siblings, Dustin (Christina) Laidler of Middleburg, Shawnta (Randy) Seals of Jacksonville, Daniel (Heather) Walls of Georgia, and April Pereyra of Jacksonville; grandmothers, Geneva Laidler of Orange Park and Mary Sutton of Middleburg; aunts and uncles, Donna (Montey) Teasley of Alabama, Cindy Williams of Middleburg, Frank Laidler of Jacksonville, Jimmy (Linda) Laidler of St. Augustine, and Marsha McNabb of Orange Park; and her nieces, Tori, Hannah, Natalie, and Summer.
Maddy’s Celebration of Life was held Saturday, September 21, at 1:00 pm at the Calvary Baptist Church in Middleburg, FL (1532 Long Bay Road). The family received friends for a visitation beginning at 12:00 pm at the church.

John C. Nelson

John C. Nelson passed away on September 9, 2019. He was born May 28, 1928 to Ruth and Robert Nelson, and was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, FL.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Robert, Ralph, Donald and sisters Bess, Nancy and Joanne.
As a young man he became an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Jacksonville Beach American Red Cross Lifesaving Corp.
Following graduation from Andrew Jackson High School, he joined the U.S Navy. He then attended the University of Florida, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business.
He was awarded a Department of Justice Fellowship and earned a Master’s Degree in Criminology from the University of California at Berkeley, finishing first in his class.
He began his law enforcement career with the Jacksonville Police Department in 1950 and worked his way through the ranks to retire as Undersheriff in 1987. He then became Chief of Police in Orange Park, Florida in 1989, then Director of Public Safety, retiring in 2002.
He is survived by his wife Delores, a daughter Karen Hill (Justin D.), granddaughter Lori Hill Neves, grandson John Bradford Hill (Allison), great grandchildren Deborah Neves, Luke Hill and Evan Hill.
He was a Master Mason, member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5-30 and a member of St. John’s Cathedral.
Memorial services will be held on October 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Cathedral, 256 E. Church Street, Jacksonville Florida, 32202. The Very Reverend Katherine B. (Kate) Moorehead will officiate. The family will receive friends in Taliaferro Hall after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. John’s Cathedral.
