ORANGE PARK - With a thrilling finish that fell short 7-6 as time ended, the Orange Park Athletic Association 8-Unders Commander Blue team stopped a strong run game by the visiting Bartram Trail team with a monster sack from defensive tackle Austin Sweatt, Jr., on a critical third down play with less than two minutes on the clock.
Up 6-0 at halftime, the Orange Team let Bartram Trail power run to a 7-6 lead on their first offensive series.
With the Bartram Trail offense able to keep the chains moving and the Orange Park offense unable to break away despite strong blocking up from and downhill running from Larry Porter and quarterback Jason Humphries, the game was nearly turned around with a pass to Marsai Cruz wide open downfield late in the third period.
Cruz had the ball on his fingertips but could not bring it in as Orange Park went to defense into the fourth quarter still down 7-6.
The game would have propelled the OPAA team into the state final game next week.
