Middleburg man charged with killing his brother

MIDDLEBURG – A 63-year-old man was arrested Sunday for shooting and killing his brother during an argument, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.
John Ward Gill, of Middleburg, was charged with second degree murder after CCSO deputies found his brother, Thomas Melvin Gill, in a back bedroom with a gunshot wound. Emergency workers pronounced the brother dead.
John Gill was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with a “self-inflicted injuries that were not life-threatening” to his head and face, according to CCSO. He was released from the hospital and transported to the Clay County Jail, where he is being held without bond.

Woman caught with drugs during routine traffic stop

ORANGE PARK – A passenger was arrested for possessing cocaine, fentanyl and marijuana during a routine traffic stop after a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy noticed the driver not wearing his seatbelt.
Hannah Marie Zarzycki, 22, of St. Augustine, was arrested after the car was stopped on Park Avenue on Feb. 13. The deputy noticed what appeared to be a plastic bag with marijuana in the center console. A drug-sniffing dog, Ory, alerted deputies of the likely presence of illegal drugs. Cocaine and fentanyl were found in her purse, according to the arrest report.
The driver was issued a warning for not wearing a seatbelt, while Zarzycki was released after posting bond.
