Second arrest made following November beating death

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – One of the men linked to the Nov. 21 beating death of a Keystone Heights man was arrested for being an accessory after the fact.
Jesse Edwin Roe, 23, already was in jail in Cleveland, New York. He was transported to Clay County.
According to the arrest report, Jesse Roe was one of at least six men who stopped Steven D. Perry at gunpoint on Bills Way. When Perry got out of his car, he was beaten with baseball bats and pool cues. Following the beating, Perry’s lifeless body was loaded into Jesse Roe’s pickup truck and it eventually was dumped on the side of the road near the Putnam County line.
Kalvin Wayne Roe, 39, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
Jesse Roe’s bond was set at $1 million.

Man caught trying to get refunds for stolen items

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for organized fraud after he stole and returned stolen merchandise to several local stores.
Robbie Lee Dorminey Jr., 48, of Keystone Heights was charged Aug. 14 with fraudulently obtaining property after he stole items from stores and tried to return them for a refund, CCSO said. If his refund was denied, he shoplifted the merchandise.
Some of the items taken included a bottle of clothes soap, a fan, bleach and two five-gallon buckets of deck coating.
His bond was set at $5,003.

Man jailed after causing scene while casting early vote

OAKLEAF – An enraged Orange Park man was arrested on Aug. 15 after he caused a disturbance while early voting.
Charles Scott Hanson, 45, was charged with using force to refrain elections officers from performing their duties after they asked him to fill out a new signature card at the poll at 3975 Eagle Landing Parkway since his card didn’t match the signature on his driver’s license.
Hanson, who told deputies he was an Army veteran suffering with PTSD, berated poll workers with profanity, according to CCSO, and that prompted other voters to leave.
Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies told the man poll workers needed a new signature card and they weren’t denying him the right to vote, CCSO said. He filled out the card, voted and was arrested for causing the poll to be temporarily closed.

Traffic stop leads to arrest for litany of outstanding warrants

ORANGE PARK – A women was booked into the Clay County Jail after a traffic stop revealed she was wanted on several outstanding charges.
Regina Anne McAnulty, 39, of Orange Park, was charged with possession of cocaine, fentanyl, barbiturates and drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, using a false name or identification.
She was pulled over for not stopping while pulling onto Wells Road from Eldridge Avenue.
The outstanding charges date back to 2018.

Man charged with choking woman during argument

MELROSE – A 49-year old was arrested Aug. 16 for reportedly choking a woman during a domestic dispute.
Gary William Matukaitus, of Melrose, was charged with domestic battery by strangulation after Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the victim with bruises on her chest and neck, as well as a scratch above her right eye.
Deputies said Matukaitus’ bedroom also appeared to be ransacked.

Man wanted in Bradford found in Keystone Heights camper

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – A man wanted in Bradford County for grand theft and possession of a firearm was tracked down to a camper on Aug. 13 on Dennison Avenue.
John Franklin Burns, 47, was found lying on a pile of clothes inside the trailer. He eventually was arrested with the assist of a Clay County Sheriff’s Office K-9.
His bond was set at $75,006.

One dead following wrong way crash on S.R. 16

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – An Orange Park man who was driving westbound in the eastbound lane on State Road 16 near the Clay County Fairgrounds was killed in a head-on crash that involved four other cars.
The 44-year-old man died at the scene, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The FHP no longer reports names of people involved in accidents.
