Fake contractor arrested after taking $2,000 from GCS woman

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A man was arrested in Putnam County after falsely claimed he was a licensed contractor after being paid $2,000 to make repairs to a home in Green Cove Springs.
Billy Leeman Bielling, 51, was being held on a $25,003 bond after being charged with false advertising and impersonating himself as a licensed electrical and plumbing contractor.
According to the arrest report, Bielling accepted a $2,000 down payment in February for a $10,000 job. The victim became suspicious and searched Bielling on the internet and learned he already had a prior conviction for the same crimes in Polk County. She also found he doesn’t hold a contractor’s license.
The victim demanded her money from Bielling’s New Beginnings Renovations.

CCSO’s K9 Diesel catches woman hiding meth in soft drink cup


MIDDLEBURG – A traffic stop for an improper tag resulted in the arrest Monday of a woman who sheriff’s deputies said tried to hide methamphetamine in a soft drink cup.
Amanda Danielle Mizell, 30, of Jacksonville, was one of four people in a pickup truck parked at Johns Cemetery Road and Mint Court when a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy approached the truck because the license tag didn’t match the vehicle. Once he approached, he smelled marijuana and immediately called for a drug-sniffing dog.
K9 Diesel alerted deputies to drugs. They found methamphetamine inside a cup next to Mizell. They also found three syringes.
Mizell was charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, as well as trying to conceal evidence.

Man jailed for punching woman in nose, stealing her laptop

MIDDLEBURG – A homeless man was in the Clay County Monday after Clay County Sheriff Deputies said he punched a woman in the face and stole her laptop.
Erik Christopher Barfield, 39, was charged with simple battery and grand theft.
Deputies were called to Orchid Avenue where they found a woman who said Barfield got angry because he wouldn’t give him a ride to Jacksonville. After she ordered him out of the car, she said Barfield punched her in the nose and chin with his fist before taking her computer from the backseat.
Deputies found Barfield four miles away on Peregrine Place and arrested him.

CCSO: Couple caught leaving Home Depot with tools

ORANGE PARK – A local couple were arrested for trying to run from The Home Depot with three boxes of tools.
Tammy Renee Wright, 46, of Orange Park and Jasper Lee Long III, 42, of Keystone Heights, were charged on Sept. 18 with grand theft of materials worth more than $300, but less than $4,999. Long also was charged with removing anti-theft devices.
Long left the store and met Wright in the parking lot, where they unloaded the tools into her car, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.

Second home invasion suspect caught in Jacksonville


CLAY COUNTY – A second Jacksonville man was arrested for the Sept. 9 armed home invasion where four men pointed weapons at a victim while they searched his house for money.
Allan Antonio Bass Jr., 18, was charged on Sept. 20 with home invasion with a deadly weapon. Talint Wayne Jamal Curtis, 18, of Jacksonville was arrested on Sept. 16 for the same charges.
Both men were arrested in Jacksonville and returned to Clay County.

Woman arrested for interfering with DUI stop

ORANGE PARK – A 25-year-old woman’s hands and feet had to be bound by a police hobble after she became combative while Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies were arresting a man for driving under the influence.
Cherie Dominique Lahargoue, of Orange Park, was charged with three counts of battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Lahargoue stopped her SUV while Daniel James Knight, 27, was being handcuffed after being suspected of riding his motorcycle under the influence. Lahargoue started fighting with deputies repeatedly asked her to leave the scene, CCSO said in its arrest report. One deputy was scratched with a spike collar and another deputy was kicked.

Employee accused of taking money from employer

ORANGE PARK – An employee at Safety-Kleen Systems was arrested Sept. 19 for taking money from the business.
Theresa Rene Cassell, 47, of Orange Park was charged with grand theft of more than $300, but less than $4,999 after a store employee said it appeared money was missing from two accounts.

Homeless panhandler arrested for disrupting traffic


ORANGE PARK – A homeless man was arrested for walking into traffic to solicit donations near Blanding Boulevard and Wells Road.
Nick Lee Nichols, 45, of Orange Park, was charged on Sept. 18 with violating a county ordinance that prohibits the solicitation of money on roadways without a permit.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Nichols was holding a sign that read “Help, God Bless” at the intersection on Sept. 18. He was stopped by deputies after he was seen walking between cars to collect money, which caused a disruption of traffic.
