Orange Park man caught with child pornography

ORANGE PARK – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office wrapped up an investigation that was months in the making by arresting a 22-year-old man for child pornography.
Joseph Michael Vavra was charged with 10 counts of possession, controlling or viewing photographs or videos of children in sexual situations.
According to the arrest report, CCSO conducted a raid in the 2700 block of Cedarcrest Drive in August and the agency recovered several “electronic storage devices and electronics capable of accessing the internet.”
A judge signed a warrant in September to investigate the storage devices. The sheriff’s office said they eventually uncovered “thousands” of videos and photos of both “child abusive material and adult content.”
Vavra remained in the Clay County Jail earlier this week with an $85,030 bond.

Couple nabbed by K9 with drugs at OPMC parking lot

ORANGE PARK – A couple were arrested while apparently doing drugs Oct. 11 in the Orange Park Medical Center parking lot.
Clay County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Crystal Gayle Henderson, 38, of Green Cove Springs, and Keith Lamar Rowell, 41, of Green Cove Springs, after a drug-sniffing dogs alerted deputies to the presence of drugs inside their car.
Henderson was charged with possession of methamphetamine with an intent to sell, manufacture or deliver, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia after the drugs and a loaded handgun were found in the glove box. Her bond was set at $80,008.
Rowell was charged with possession of methamphetamine with an intent to sell, manufacture or deliver, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $57,508.

Woman charged with setting herself, house on fire

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A month-long investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s and Clay County Sheriff’s offices resulted in the arrest Oct. 15 of a woman who set herself and her house on fire.
Charlotte Kennedy Johns, 43, of Green Cove Springs, was charged with second-degree arson after deputies responded to a house fire at 3190 Dothan Road on Sept. 21. They found Johns in the front yard with burns on her arms. Investigators also found a gas can in her living room. An accelerant-sniffing dog alerted investigators to the presence of gasoline in the can and on the floor at the entrance of the master bedroom.

Man jailed for leaving children locked in enclosed car

ORANGE PARK – A New York man was arrested Oct. 11 after he left four children locked in his car for nearly a half hour with the windows rolled up.
Cephas Ulysses Bradley, Jr., 27, of Brooklyn, was charged with four counts of child neglect after security agents at the Orange Park Mall noticed the children “sweating and in distress” inside the enclosed car.
According to the National Weather Service, the high temperature at 1:30 p.m. in Orange Park was about 82 degrees. According to heatkills.org, the temperature inside the car could have been as hot at 105 degrees.
While the children were sweating, Clay County Sheriff’ Office deputies said none needed to be transported for medical treatment.

Enraged man runs truck off road carrying girlfriend

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – A man used his truck to run another man off the road in what appeared to be a jealous rage.
Brandon Chase Spivey, 19, of Keystone Heights, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, simple domestic dating violence and vandalism after he rammed Cody Nicholson off Oriole Street and into the curb, Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies said. Spivey’s girlfriend was riding with Nicholson, CCSO said.
Nicholson said he saw Spivey approach him in a high rate of speed and eventually pass him. Spivey then slammed on his brakes before pulling beside Nicholson and veering into the driver’s side door.
Deputies said Spivey pulled his girlfriend from the damaged truck. Spivey later returned to the scene and was arrested.
Damage to Nicholson’s truck was estimated at $5,000.
Spivey’s bond was set at $155,011.


Man arrested following rash of car break ins

MIDDLEBURG – A 24-year-old man was arrested after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said he broke into at least five cars in the Azalea Ridge subdivision.
Mark Webster Patterson, of Middleburg, was charged with five counts of burglary.
According to the arrest report, Patterson broke into cars on Oct. 1. He took approximately $2 from one car, deputies said.
