Three arrested following fight that cleared Orange Park Mall

ORANGE PARK – Three people were charged with child abuse following a fight that forced the Orange Park Mall to be shut down last Sunday night.
Shannon Niche Thompson, 40, Derrick Leon Mack, 20, and Ivan Augustus Boyd, 43, all were arrested after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office were called for a man with a gun in Victoria’s Secret.
When deputies arrived, people were panicked and running from the mall. Everyone was ordered to leave the building and some left personal items behind.
“The CCSO conducted multiple security sweeps of businesses within the interior of the mall, evacuating more than 600 people in the process,” the agency said in a release. “Additionally, Clay County Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, but no injuries were reported.
“After speaking to witnesses and reviewing video surveillance, the CCSO determined that a gun was never brandished, and no shots were fired.”
Anyone who still needs to retrieve items is asked to call the mall’s security at (904) 269-2422.

CCSO: Man caught two days after carjacking man
MIDDLEBURG – A man was caught after Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies said he carjacked a victim at gunpoint and used the victim’s bank card at a convenience store in Jacksonville.
Matthew Allen Kerr, 27, of Middleburg, forced the victim to give up his pickup truck at 3:06 a.m. on Alligator Boulevard on Dec. 1. The victim’s cellphone was found in a ditch on Normandy Boulevard in Jacksonville a few minutes later, and his bank card was used at a gas pump on Normandy.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a suspicious person on Ft. Carolina Road in Northeast Jacksonville. They found Kerr walking a few miles and Kerr said the truck belonged to the victim.
Kerr’s bond was set at $250,003.

Darryl Daniels’ trial
pushed back to February

CLAY COUNTY – A St. Johns County Judge granted a motion to push back former sheriff Darryl Daniels’ trial to mid-February.
Judge R. Lee Smith said the new trial date will be either Feb. 14 or 21.
Daniels was supposed to be in court on Dec. 13 to face charges of tampering or destroying evidence during an investigation about an affair he had with a former corrections officer at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and three counts of making false information to law enforcement of an alleged crime.
State Attorney Melissa Nelson recused herself because she worked other cases with Daniels. While the trial will be at the Clay County Courthouse, the case is being prosecuted by the Fifth Judicial Circuit which serves Marion, Sumter and Lake counties, and a judge from the Seventh Judicial Circuit with is comprised of St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam and Volusia counties.
Daniels was arrested in August 2020, just days before the Republican primary and he eventually lost his bid for re-election to Michelle Cook.
According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Daniels took his cellphone to the sheriff’s office and asked that information pertaining to the affair be scrubbed or destroyed.

Middleburg man busted with child porn on his cellphone

MIDDLEBURG – A man was arrested and in the Clay County Jail with a $500,030 bond after deputies found 10 or more photos or videos of children having sex on his cellphone.
Dominic Brae Canterbury, 23, of Middleburg, was arrested on Nov. 30 and charged with 10 felonies after his mother apparently reported the depictions to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Four accused of taking tools from Baptist Clay construction site

FLEMING ISLAND – Four people were arrested for breaking into the construction site for the new Baptist Clay Hospital on Dec. 7 and stealing tools and discharging a fire extinguisher, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
A hospital security guard called the sheriff’s office to report trespassers at the site. They found Nathaniel Baker, 18, in a bathroom.
Rosemarie Airyana Baker, 21, was caught across the street at a restaurant, while Adam Gerard Sossa, 23, and Trinity Rose Shults, 20, were caught walking on the Black Creek Bike Trail. All were charged with burglary, petit theft, criminal mischief, trespassing on legally posted construction site and obstructing a firefighter from extinguishing a fire.

Man charged with fighting employees after walking out on check

ORANGE PARK – A man who was asked to leave Buffalo Wild Wings for being disruptive was arrested for pushing an employee and walking out on a $9.68 check.
Ryan Tyler Holland, 39, of Jacksonville, was charged with simple battery and defrauding an innkeeper to obtain food after he was asked to leave the restaurant on Wells Road because he was arguing with another guest.
One employee asked Holland to pay his bar tab and leave and Holland responded by pushing the employee and leaving, according to the arrest report.

Woman charged with falsifying her payroll

ORANGE PARK – A woman was arrested after a business owner found nearly $32.000 in discrepancies between her salary and bill payments.
Suzanne Michelle Phillips, 48, of Middleburg, was charged with grand theft of more than $20,000, but less than $100,000 after the owner of Masterbilt Golf Carts said $31,803.46 was taken from his business while Phillips worked there between Jan. 1, 2018, and April 10, 2020. He said the difference between her salary and what she was paid was $30,012.46. He also said eight checks totaling $1,791 were paid using the business account.
Phillips was released from the Clay County Jail after posting a $15,003 bond.

Accident near The FIRM sends three to local hospitals

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS –Three people were hospitalized following a three-car accident on State Road 100 near the Clay and Bradford county lines on Friday, Dec. 3.
The accident happened two miles east of the Florida International Rally and Motorsports Park’s Nitro Rallycross race at the Keystone Heights Airport, and it forced the Florida Highway Patrol and deputies with the Clay and Bradford county sheriff’s office to reroute traffic for more than an hour.
A woman was pinned inside a car and needed to be extricated with the help of the “Jaws of Life” tool. Fire and rescue members cut away the left side of the car to free her.
The identities of the people involved were not released.
