Orange Park man charged with murder at Christmas Day shooting
ORANGE PARK – A Christmas Day argument resulted in the shooting death of a woman and second-degree murder charges against a man.
Kiaun Shannard Miller, 24, of Orange Park, was being held in the Clay County Jail without bond after deputies found Shantdella Garcon with three gunshot wounds to the left side of her body.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to The Park at Matera Apartment Homes at 2150 Spencer Road for a disturbance. They said found Garcon against the sliding glass door on the back porch. Neighbors reported hearing a loud argument, three gunshots and a woman’s plea to be let inside.
A witness said Garcon came to Miller’s girlfriend’s apartment on Christmas Day and demanded to see Miller. Garcon and Miller have a child together. After Garcon was allowed to enter, Miller and Garcon went to the back porch. The girlfriend said she saw Miller brandish a handgun.
Detectives said Miller eventually admitted to shooting his former girlfriend. He also said he didn’t recall many of the facts because he was “blacking out.”
Couple accused to shooting five times at homeowner during robbery
ORANGE PARK – A Jacksonville Beach woman and Orange Park man were charged Dec. 22 with attempted murder and armed burglary following an investigation into a home robbery on Dec. 5.
Kirstyn Leigh Craft, 24, also was charged with accessory after the fact for driving Zakariya Da’Ud Clarke to a house on Eldridge Avenue on Dec. 5.
Clarke, 27, of Orange Park, also was charged with possession of a firearm and ammo by a convicted felon.
According to the arrest report, Clarke entered the home with the intent to rob the homeowner of money and Xanax. The intruder fired five times at the homeowner and his wife, but missed after they hid in their bedroom. Deputies found spent .40 caliber casings inside the home.
Craft and Clarke were stopped in Duval County in a stolen car. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigators found a .40 caliber casing on the floorboard, as well as a loaded .40 calibert Smith and Wesson pistol.
Clarke’s bond was set at $850,009, while Craft’s bond was set at $450,009.
One man jailed following fight between brother, step-brother
ORANGE PARK – A fight between a brother and his step-brother led the one man being arrested for aggravated domestic battery with a deadly weapon.
Kevin Lee Degolyer, 28, of Orange Park was charged after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported domestic incident on Dec. 23.
His step-brother was found with cuts on his head after being struck with a metal object, and a small cut on the back of his left arm after he was thrown through a wooden fence, CCSO said.
Deputies also found a metal crowbar near the broken fence.
Wanted Middleburg man returned to Clay County Jail
JACKSONVILLE – A man was sent back to Clay County to face two charges of selling and delivering heroin.
Gary Lee Penny Jr., 42, of Middleburg, was arrested in Duval County. He was returned to the Clay County Jail o Dec. 23 to face a pair of year-old warrants.
According to the arrest report, Penny is suspected to making two sales to an undercover informant on Oct. 1, 2019, and Oct. 17, 2019.
Penny’s bond was set at $150,006.
