GREEN COVE SPRINGS- A traffic incident on Sunday afternoon resulted in at least one fatality.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the crash occurred on North Orange Avenue and Bayard Street around 2:29 p.m. A 78-year-old woman from Fleming Island was driving northbound on Orange Avenue with a 55-year-old man from Gainesville and a 15-year-old girl from Fleming Island as passengers.

The FHP said she crossed through the intersection and struck a pickup truck driven by a 47-year-old man from Green Cove Springs, who was driving southbound and was in the left turn lane.

The right front of the Toyota 4Runner driven by the woman slammed into the truck's left front, causing the 4Runner to overturn and roll for approximately 30 yards.

The 78-year-old woman was declared dead at the hospital, while the two passengers in the 4Runner were listed in serious condition.

The man in the pickup truck suffered minor injuries.

As of Wednesday morning, the FHP was still investigating. According to reports, the Clay County Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent robbery of items taken from the 4Runner from the impound yard.
