ORANGE PARK – Orange Park High’s Lady Raiders basketball team continued their assault on all challengers with a five-game win streak putting the fleet-footed sharpshooters at 17-2 overall and unblemished in district 4-6A at 7-0.

After a lethargic 59-47 loss to Ribault on January 7 after a Christmas tournament win at Palatka’s Jarvis Williams event, the Lady Raiders have torched Keystone Heights (53-28), Baker County (67-20), Wolfson (62-17), Ridgeview (72-29) and 8A-Buchholz (58-23).

“We do more running than anyone in practice,” said Raiders’ coach Fred Coles. “Our pace is the secret.”

Orange Park has just three games remaining before the February 4 district tournament with Atlantic Coast and Oakleaf up first, but a big county clash with Middleburg (15-4) set for the season finale on February 1.

Middleburg has rebounded from a 52-47 district 3-7A loss to Nease that saw Bronco center Skylar Baltezegar go scoreless against Nease all star center Constance Hobby, who scored 19, with wins over St. Augustine (49-42) and Fernandina Beach (56-36).

With Britany Range hitting for 33 points, the Lady Broncos (13-4) held tight for most of the game, but eventually fell 52-47.

Against Fernandina Beach, Mallory Roney hit for 22 points with six blocked shots and seven rebounds.

Against St. Augustine, Skylar Baltezegar had 14 points with 11 rebounds as both Range and Roney hit for double figures; 14 for Range, 12 for Roney.

For Fleming Island (12-7, 6-2), after a four game win streak that included 9A-Mandarin (50-32), Bartram Trail (52-51 off a buzzerbeater from senior Aubrey Burke), Creekside (50-36) and Oakleaf (56-35), the Golden Eagles screeched to a halt without top scoring guard Emma Richards with a 73-38 blowout from 6A-Terry Parker High (11-6) in a Martin Luther King Holiday Tournament at University Christian on Monday.

Burke scored her 1,000th career point against Oakleaf.

Fleming Island finishes with 1A-Hawthorne (15-2) and 5A-Bolles (11-5) before districts.
