GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A trafficking stop for running a red light on U.S. Highway 17 wound up sending a Middleburg man to the Clay County Jail after being charged with trafficking cocaine, tampering with evidence in a criminal proceeding and driving with a suspended license on Aug. 31.
Orynthyal James Williams, 52, was stopped on County Road 209 after a Task Force deputy said Williams ran the light at U.S. 17 at East-West Parkway.
The deputy knew Williams didn’t have a license, and he asked for a K-9 deputy to conduct a drug sniff of the vehicle’s exterior. K-9 Odin confirmed the likely presence of illegal narcotics. A deputy found an unusual “bulge” in Williams’ “groin area” when he was searched. It turned out to be a plastic bag with cocaine.
His bond was set at $205,009.
