SJR State accepting applications for summer courses

ORANGE PARK – St. Johns River State College will accept applications for summer classes through May 1, with classes starting May 8.
The following healthcare classes, which begin in August, also are available: EMT and paramedic programs; medical assistants; radiologic technology; health information technology; and practical nursing.

School grants available to improve physical, emotional health

Schools want what’s best for student health and academic success, and yet many lacks the necessary resources to implement high quality programs and activities to improve our students’ physical and emotional health and their preparedness to learn.
Since 2009, Action for Healthy Kids has provided $8.7 million in grants and technical support to help schools achieve their student wellness goals. Now through April 5, schools and parents can apply for the following grants available for the 2019-2020 school year:
· Game On Grants: Secure funding and resources for your school to introduce or improve nutrition and physical activity programs. With a grant of $1,000 or more utilizing AFHK’s flagship program, Game On, you can build a school garden, jump-start active recess, purchase physical education equipment, host taste tests, kick-off an after-school activity club, and so much more.
· Parents for Healthy Kids Grants: Parents, here’s your chance to make your mark on school health! Parents and parent-led groups (PTAs, PTOs) can apply for a $1,000 school grant to provide funds and resources to introduce or improve fitness or nutrition programs and engage families in health at school and at home. Help ensure all students have access to healthy choices.
· School Breakfast Grants: Expand access to school breakfast for hungry and undernourished kids. Grants from $1,000 to $3,000 can support equipment and other resources needed to implement or expand Breakfast in the Classroom, Grab-and-Go Breakfast, or other alternative breakfast programs that help students start their day right.

Clay’s Lavery makes Endicott College’s Dean’s List

BEVERLY, Mass. – Clay High graduate Ryan Lavery made the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Endicott College.
To qualify for the Dean's List, a student must obtain a minimum grade point average of 3.5, receive no grade below a "C", have no withdrawal grades and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits for the semester.
Lavery is from Green Cove Springs. She is majoring in psychology and is the daughter of Jill Lavery.

Saint Leo University offering
scholarships to Catholic seniors

ST. LEO – Saint Leo University announced it will offer a significant new scholarship to help make higher education more accessible to Catholic high school students in Florida.
Available for students beginning in the Fall 2019 Semester, the Catholic Promise Scholarship will award Florida students who have attended four years at a Catholic high school with an annual scholarship of $14,000 toward their tuition at Saint Leo University’s main campus. The scholarship is renewable each year for up to four years and will provide up to $56,000 in financial aid by the time the student graduates. When combined with the Florida Effective Access to Student Education (EASE) grant of $3,500 per year and an annual $5,500 to $7,500 in Stafford Loans, Saint Leo University’s annual tuition will be significantly reduced for recipients of the Catholic Promise Scholarship every year.
“As the first of its kind in Saint Leo history, the Catholic Promise Scholarship will effectively bring the cost of a high-quality, private, liberal-arts education within the reach of many Catholic high school students across the state of Florida,” said Dr. Senthil Kumar, Saint Leo University vice president for University Campus Admissions & Center for Global Engagement.
To receive the scholarship, students must meet the following requirements: complete four years at a Catholic high school; have an unweighted 3.0 GPA; be a U.S. citizen and Florida resident; attend Saint Leo’s main campus; live on campus for all four years; and, maintain a 2.5 GPA and full-time status while earning a degree.
This commitment to promoting accessibility and affordability of Catholic higher education demonstrates Saint Leo’s Benedictine core values, both as an institution and pillar of the Catholic community.

Saint Leo University will hold a Catholic Promise Scholarship Open House on April 7, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., on its main campus at 33701 State Road 52, at St. Leo. Prospective students and their families, school counselors and the public are invited to learn more about the scholarship, university degree programs, and campus life.
