JACKSONVILLE - Clay High’s Sara Stotler and Orange Park’s Jose Medina were business as expected with dominant wins in their events at the district 3-2A swimming championships held October 28 at Jacksonville’s Cecil Field Aquatic Center.

Clay’s girls finished second to Stanton Prep with the Prep Blue Devils dominating team points 556.5 to 283 while the Raider boys taking third behind Bishop Kenny at Stanton Prep who both scored above 400 points.

Stotler, second in the 200 Individual medley and 100 butterfly at last year’s state meet, won the region title in the 200 individual medley by almost 15 seconds then returned to the pool to take the 100 butterfly title by almost five seconds.

For the 200 IM, Stotler is top ranked by almost eight seconds with her 2:06.82 split. Stotler swam a 2:02.09 for second in 2A last year with winner Julia Podkoscielny, a freshman, in at 2:00.46.

In the 100 fly, Stotler 55.99 winning time is nearly five seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Stotler went 54.35 for her state runnerup last year.

Medina, in the 100 free, had to hold off Stanton’s Aiden Laurie to win in just .06 seconds’ 50.06-50.12. Medina’s split is ranked third in the region. Medina was 11th in 2A last year in 48.51.

Medina opened with a win in the 200 free by six seconds in 1:49.60 with the final 25 a slowed down finish. The time gives Medina the top rank in region 1-2A by almost four seconds.

“I wanted to go out fast and get a fast split, but my arms went kind of slow after the final turn,” said Medina. “We’ll get it right at regions then be super ready for state.”

Medina lead off the 200 free relay team with a swift 24.24 to push his Raider team to a first place finish over Bishop Kenny. Medina teamed with Parker Meeks, Ryan Pritchard and Jalen Randall to snag the top split in the region.

Randall won the 100 breaststroke by almost a second over Pritchard with Meeks fourth and Clay’s Andrew Weseman fifth. Randall is also ranked seventh in the region in the 50 free with just one second separating the top 12 swimmers in the region.

In the 100 backstroke, Ridgeview High’s Gage Quigley is ranked sixth in the region by about four seconds with his 58.39 getting third at districts.

In the 100 breaststroke, Clay’s Elysia Addison and Orange Park’s Jalen Randall are both in the mix at regions with both ranked third. Addison was second at districts in 1:11.04 while Randall won his district title in 1:03.11 over teammate Ryan Pritchard’s 1:04.13. Pritchard is fourth ranked in the region.
