Take Stock in Children is a college success program that supports students from middle school through college with a unique combination of mentorship, college readiness coaching and a guaranteed Florida Prepaid scholarship.
The seniors honored this weekend joined TSIC early in their academic journey, committed to their education, upheld strong values and stayed focused on their goals. Thanks to their hard work and dedication — and the support of their mentors and families — they are now on their way to college with a two-year tuition scholarship in hand.
This weekend also honored new inductees as they begin their journey and cheer on seniors as they rise to new heights, reflecting on where they’ve been and reaching toward what’s next. New students signed their contracts during the ceremony, acknowledging that in exchange for a two-year tuition-based scholarship, they pledge to maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above at all times. They will attend all classes to the best of their ability, meet with their mentor and be a positive influence in their school and community.
Take Stock has been a vital part of the Clay County community; First Coast YMCA has managed it for over 10 years. During this time, more than 265 teens have graduated from the program, awarding over $1.3 million in scholarships. The strength of the program relies on the diligence of the mentors. Today, with over 50+ mentors giving back to the community, the FCYMCA has totaled over 900 mentor sessions logged. The FCYMCA is always looking for mentors who can commit just 30 minutes a week to help guide and encourage a student.
Also at the event, Janice Tucker was honored for her dedication to Take Stock in Children for over 20 years, and senior McKenzie Lawson won the Outstanding Senior Award.
