• The Florida Department of Law Enforcement reports statewide that crime was reduced by 6.1% and Clay County crime dropped 6.7%.
• The St. Johns Country Day School girls basketball team defeated Bronson, 46-31, to win the Cedar Key School Holiday Beach Ball Tournament behind Kendall Sage’s 19-point performance.
• The Clay High boys basketball team beat Seacoast Academy, 64-57, in overtime to finish third in its own Clay High Christmas Basketball Invitational.

• Chris Stann, a specialist serving in the 351st Military Police Company, replaced the U.S. flag stolen from the front yard of retired U.S. Navy Capt. Billy Creech of Orange Park.
• O2B Kids on Fleming Island’s Lisa Baker was selected as the Pre-School Teacher of the Year by the North Florida Early Learning Coalition.
• Despite getting 26 points from Jonathan Bryant, Oakleaf lost to top-ranked Melbourne, 65-59, at the Amway Center Showcase in Orlando.
20 years ago, 2005
• Phillip Edward Douglas, 16, turned himself into the Orange Park Police Department, where he was wanted for reportedly breaking into a neighbor’s apartment and raping a woman at knifepoint.
• the Clay County Sheriff’s Office charges Andrew Todd Oaks and a juvenile with three counts of arson that resulted in $3,000 in damage to area businesses.
30 years ago, 1995
• Judge William A. Wilkes sentenced Moody Wayne Collins Jr. to 24 years in prison for the second-degree murder of his 13-year-old son, Michael Collins.
• W.R. Townsend Contractors of Jacksonville began clearing part of land known as Blueberry Plantation on Fleming Island to make way for a subdivision of Lake Shore Drive.
40 years ago, 1985
• Three women were sworn into constitutional offices in the New Year: Tax Collector Ruth Lee was appointed by Gov. Bob Graham, Ann Wiggins as Superintendent of Schools, and Dorothy Holt as Supervisor of Elections.
• The Green Cove Springs Police Department investigated two unrelated deaths – Cynthia Kuhn was shot in Spring Park, and Michael Keith Young was found dead on the job at Taylor Concrete.
