• Sheriff Darryl Daniels called for the creation of an information center to help prisoners released from the Clay County Jail make a transformation to society.
• Developer John Kiddy announces his plan to build Branan Field Village near Branan Field and Old Jennings Road in Middleburg.

• Jarred Harrell is granted a continuance by Judge Don H. Lester in his trial for killing 7-year-old Somer Thompson.
• The Orange Park Town Council starts a debate whether to buy up to 12 acres for $950,000 to develop a park that would include nature trails, boardwalks and canoe and kayak launches.
• The Green Cove Springs City Council votes to spend $50,000 for a Gainesville consulting company to access the city’s stormwater system.

• Orange Park Police Chief John Nelson’s resignation is accepted by the Town Council.
• Green Cove Springs gets a $25,000 grant from the St. Johns River Water Management District to fund a stormwater project at Vera Francis Hall Park.
• Garber Auto Mall announces it plans to move its seven dealerships outside the city limits of Green Cove Springs to better showcase its inventory.

30 years ago, 1992

• Andre A. Clemons, 25, tries to escape while appearing in front of judge L. Haldane Taylor to be sentenced for second-degree murder by swing a sock filled with soap, but he is restrained by his attorney, James R. Theis.
• The Clay County Fair Association moves into its new office adjacent to the fairgrounds.
• The Board of County Commissioners said it’s waiting on a proposal from the Orange Park Town Council to turn the old post office building at 352 Stowe Ave. into the Orange Park Senior Center.

• The City of Green Cove Springs and the Board of County Commissioners finally reach an agreement for the purchase of the Rosemary Hill Landfill.
• The Cove Plaza Shopping Center in Green Cove turns in a parking lot plan to satisfy city code requirements.
