• The Clay County School Board tables its final decision on redistricting after fifteen parents voice their opposition that would shift hundreds of students from Plantation Oaks to Argyle Elementary.
• Hundreds of prospective buyers attend a Federal Bureau of Land Management wild horse and burro adoption at the Clay County Fairgrounds.
• Clay Transit added 28 benches and plans to hire new drivers to increase service for local riders.

• Burglar makes a dumb mistake by trying to break into the home of off-duty Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office deputy in Orange Park. Jarvis Gerrie Guthrie went to jail with a black eye.
• The Green Cove Springs Public Library and Augusta Savage Arts and Community Center join to sponsor a paper plane club at the Thomas Hogans Gymnsium.
• Clay County Superintendent Ben Wortham tells the school board he supports lifting the no trespassing warning against Rev. Ron Baker of Russell Baptist Church that prohibits him from conducting prayer circles at county school for the past 10 years.

• The Board of County Commissioners decides not to accept a business plan that would put the city in the cable television business.
• Brian Gillespie wins the Keystone Heights Elementary Spelling Bee.
• Johnny Emery, who is from Baker County, is sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing Richard Campbell during a robbery at a carwash.

• Clay County Judge William A. Wilkes rules against Mayor James Tillman’s lawsuit that challenged the appointment of Ted Coleman to a seat on the Town Council.
• Richard Fellows announces he will retire as the Green Cove Springs City Manager.
• Green Cove Springs Elementary’ s Adam Phillips wins the National Geographic Geography Bee.

40 years ago, 1982

• The Clay County Legislative Delegation appoints James B. Jett to the Governmental Study Commission.
• The county commission questions the new legislative districts drawn up by the Florida Senate which would lump Clay County with the southern half of Duval County.
• The Clay County School Board approves a 10.7% pay raise for teachers.
