• Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler is sued after an unidentified man was wrongfully arrested for shoplifting after deputies failed to check surveillance video, according to the man’s lawyer.
• Two school board members – Carol Studdard and Janice Kerekes – walk out of a meeting after they claim it wasn’t sufficiently advertised seven days in advance as required by law.
• Jerry Fred Daniels was sentenced to five years of probation in connection with the killing of Clay County Sheriff’s Office Det. David White.
10 years ago, 2010
• Charter Review members are asked by change a ballot amendment proposal that would extend alcohol sales on Sunday in Clay County.
• The Clay County Property Appraiser’s Office reports the average value of county homes dropped by 13%.
• The Green Cove Springs City Council agrees on improvements to the Augusta Savage Community Center despite knowing it faces a $500,000 shortfall in projected revenues.
20 years ago, 2000
• City, county and state officials break ground on a new extension that will link Branan Field Road with Duval County.
• Burgess G. McDaniels, known as the “Peanut Man,” had his car stolen from U.S. Highway 17 in Green Cove Springs while he was selling peanuts.
• Ann Kopelousos is selected as the Citizen of the Year by the Orange Park Rotary Club.
