• The Orange Park Town Council rejects an ordinance which would have required political candidates to post a bond prior to the election.

• Bannerman Learning Center’s Jeff Blanton and Thunderbolt Elementary’s Susan Hieber are selected to participate in the Florida Teachers fall Humanities program.

30 years ago, 1990

• Florida Gov. Bob Martinez visits with supporters during a stop in Green Cove Springs.

• County officials plead with the Florida Department of Transportation to find funding for the Parkridge connector.

• Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies unearth the remains of a New Jersey mother six days after they discover the remains of her two children. Her boyfriend, Michael Alan Durocher was charged with murder, and he was executed on Florida’s Death Row in 1993.

40 years ago, 1980

• Police investigate the shooting death of Green Cove Springs businessman Willie James Plummer, who was found at his estranged wife’s house.

• Fees to ride the bus are increased from 85 cents to $1 by the Jacksonville Transit Authority.

• A budget hearing at the County Commission is delayed since the finance department hasn’t received information on the non-exempt property value so the millage rate can be set.
