GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Since admission was based by the carload, not by the person, it was difficult to know exactly how many people attended the three-day “Food, Fun and Flicks” at the Clay County Fairgrounds. But with an estimated crowd of 5,000 and no debt, everyone considered the event as a success. “We did this for two reasons: first, to give the community something to do; and, second, to give Deggeller Attractions and our food vendors a chance to get out, too,” fair general manager Tasha Hyder said. Visitors were treated with day-long music concerts, a food court, Ferris Wheel and nightly drive-in movies. The event was scheduled following the cancellation of this year’s Clay County Agriculture Fair, but its success could result in more off-season festivals. “We are hoping to do something like this again in the future,” Hyder said. “Stay tuned.” Next year’s Fair is scheduled for April 1-11.
