Tigers, Yellow Jackets take junior high track titles

ORANGE PARK - Lake Asbury Junior High’s boys track team stole a six point edge on Oakleaf Junior High to take the Northeast Florida Athletic Conference title from the Yellow Jackets, but the Oakleaf girls team reversed the order with a strong win over Lake Asbury for that title in the championship meet held April 11 at Orange Park High School.

For the boys Lake Asbury scored 89 points with Oakleaf second at 82 and Green Cove Springs third at 59.

For the girls, Oakleaf scored 124.50 points to Lake Asbury’s 101 with Green Cove Springs third at 64.50.

Field event winners for the girls included Molly Burt for Lake Asbury in high jump at 4’-6”, Fiona Whitfield of Green Cove Springs in long jump at 15’-10”, Abigayle Reading for Wilkinson in shot put at 36’-11.5”and Annalee Harbison for Lake Asbury in discus at 97’-5.75”.

On the track, girls winners were Hope Carter for Lakeside in the 100 hurdles in 18.39 seconds, Kyah Shannon for Oakleaf in the 100 meters in 12.61, Erika Martinez for Lake Asbury in the 1600 in 5:57.08 with teammate Anjuli Laguna-Mars second in 6:09.84, Jayla Holt for Oakleaf in the 400 in 1:06.52, Sierra Barrera for Oakleaf in the 800 in 2:30.46 and Kyah Shannon for Oakleaf in the 200 in 25.45.

In the girls relay events, Oakleaf won the 4 x 800, the 4 x 100 and the 4 x 400 for massive team points.

For the boys, field event winners were Trevion Sermons for Lakeside in high jump at 5’-4”, William Restall for Orange Park in long jump at 17’-10.5”, Wyatt Underwood for Wilkinson in shotput at 44’-7.5” and Underwood again in discus at 134’-10”.

On the track, winners were the boys were Bryan Prince for Lake Asbury in the 100 hurdles in 15.35, Evan Brown for Oakleaf in the 100 in 11.78, Jose Grullon for Oakleaf in the 1600 in 5:06.16, Kavon Miller for Green Cove Springs in the 400 in 54.24, Taylen Bader for Lake Asbury in the 800 in 2:20.20 and Evan Brown for Oakleaf in the 200 in 24.82.

In the relays, Green Cove Springs won the 4 x800, Orange Park won the 4 x 100 and Lake Asbury won the 4 x 400.
