ORANGE PARK - Fleming Island High senior track and cross country runner Kameron Wallizada blitzed the field at the Hula Hustle 5K held Saturday on River Road in Orange Park while the women’s field came down to a final 30 seconds of action with Katie Lewis, 29, outdistancing Fleming Island master Holly Sanford for the win.
Wallizada, with a recent nine minutes, 22 second 3200 meters on the track, averaged 4:55 per mile to win the event in 15:18 ahead of Randall Bazemore, 33, who strode in at 16:09 for second. Fabrizio Gowdy, 18, took third in 17:29.
Lewis, 12th overall, dipped in just under 20 minutes in 19:57 with Sanford just steps behind in 20:16 and Alexandra Richmond, 17, third at 20:36.
There were 388 finishers for the event that benefited the Young Life youth program in Clay County and was staged by 1st Place Sports of Jacksonville.
