Samantha Stelmaszek, a Class 3A pole vault champion for Middleburg High School with an 11-foot vault, ventured to a brief college career at Southern Wesleyan University where she quickly set a new school record as a freshman. Stelmaszek also competed in long jump and triple at both Middleburg and Southern Wesleyan.
From there, thought, Stelmaszek, a Private First Class, refocused her life by joining the Air National Guard where she has been for the past two years as a 94M Radar Repairer for the 1-265th ADA unit out of Palm Coast.
Stelmaszek, who has remained in the Clay County area as a track coach at Orange Park High School, plans to return to college for a degree in electrical engineering to become an officer in the military.
