• Parents of children attending Orange Park Performing Arts Academy receive letters from the Clay County Schools District inviting them to enroll students in a public school after the charter school was shut down by the state after getting consecutive ‘F’ annual grades.
• The new tentative budget for the school district won’t require new taxes,
• Members of the Green Cove Springs City Council tell members of the Board of County Commissioners it opposes any plan to build a regional airport in the city.

• Orange Park Police Chief Jim Boivin retires.
• The county commission said it won’t increase the millage rate for its new budget.
• New federal nutrition guidelines force the school district to raise the price of lunches at elementary and secondary schools.

20 years ago, 2002
• Rhonda Taylor of Middleburg is arrested after she made false claims about being sexually assaulted by a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
• A man walks away uninjured after his pickup truck stalled on the train tracks on Peoria Road and is struck by an Amtrak train.
• The third Florida Youth Challenge Academy opens at Camp Blanding to provide life skills, physical fitness and academic and leadership experience to high school dropouts.

30 years ago, 1992

• Administrative assistant Diane Saunders resigns from the county manager’s office.
• Clay County firefighters win a 3% pay increase from the Clay County Board of Commissioners.
• A block grant means residents who live in the area of Ennison, Wall, Palm, Franklin, Walnut and Lemon streets will see their dirt roads be paved and equipped with drainage.

40 years ago, 1982

• The Clay County Development Authority asks the county commissioners not to exclude plans for a general airport in the future.
• Merrill Glisson, president of the Clay County Cattleman’s Association, announces plans for Cracker Day.
• County commissioners agree to allow for private ambulances to provide transfers so county ambulances won’t be tied up during an emergency.
