Yellow Jacket harriers defend Cecil Field title

JACKSONVILLE – With a third and fourth place finish by Graham Myers and Dalton Sass, the Oakleaf Junior High School boys cross country team, pictured left, defended their team title at the Cecil Field Summer Classic held Fri., Aug. 23 at Cecil Field.

Myers, an eighth grader and son to area master’s runner Gary Myers, finished in nine minutes, 30 seconds for the 2.5K race around the Cecil Field Golf Course with Sass just six second behind him. The overall winner was Justin Gilliam of PAL Indian Trails Middle School in 9:02 with Oak Hall’s Ben Gallogly second in 9:08.

Also finishing were Dylan Wydra, Brody Ireland, Spencer Middleton in 13th, 14th and 15th. Oakleaf took top team points with 46 to beat Providence’s 51 and Oak Hall’s 54 in a tight three-team race for the boys.

In the middle school girls race, Oakleaf eighth grader Jayla Holt finished seventh in 11:30 with teammate Grace Heilman eighth in 11:41 as the Lady Yellow Jackets finished third behind Bolles and Assumption Catholic, 36-40-57.

Also finishing were Morgan Wade and Jaiden Fisher in 20th and 21st.
